Once you have accepted Christ in your life the next and first step in obedience to Jesus Christ is to go and be baptized. Jesus did it, Paul did it, and every follower of Jesus did in the Bible. At Rollingbrook Fellowship we believe in believer's baptism by full immersion. The Greek word for "baptize" is "immerse."
Baptism is a picture of what Jesus did for us. It symbolizes His death, burial, and resurrection. He has commanded those who follow him to be baptized. It is not necessary for salvation, but necessary for obedience. It is a public profession of faith that I have accepted Jesus Christ in my life, I have been cleansed by Christ, and have been raised to walk in the newness of life. It is a prerequisite to becoming a member of our fellowship.
"...those who believed and accepted his message were baptized." -Acts 2:41
"...having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead." -Colossians 2:12
"We were, therefore, buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like thi in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection." -Romans 6:4-5
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. -Matthew 28:19-20
